Precision Steering: Building the Backbone of Reusable Flight

Regal Rexnord TVC Technology

At Elara Aerospace, the challenge of reusability starts with control. To land a rocket vertically, every millisecond of thrust must be directed with absolute precision. This mission-critical capability, known as Thrust Vector Control (TVC), is now being realized through a strategic partnership with Regal Rexnord.

By integrating specialized technologies from Regal Rexnord’s premier brands, including Thomson Industries linear actuators, Boston Gear gearheads, and Kollmorgen high-performance motors, Elara has unlocked the ability to steer its engines with unprecedented accuracy.

The TVC system is the steering wheel of the rocket. These high-fidelity actuators allow the Hopper hopper to maneuver smoothly in the atmosphere and, most importantly, achieve the pinpoint-accurate landings required for a sustainable, reusable launch system. These components aren't just parts; they are the active links that make stable flight possible.

The next phase of the program is already in sight: a dry fit with a smaller engine on the test bench. This campaign will be the first time the integrated TVC system is seen in motion, validating the structural and electronic synergy of the Regal Rexnord hardware.

This progress proves that with the right industrial partners, student-led initiatives can build advanced aerospace systems that rival professional launch providers. Together, Elara and Regal Rexnord are paving the path for Europe’s first student-built reusable suborbital rocket.
